A Fond Farewell from Jelissa

Hello 13@rts friends,

how has everyone been? Today will be my last project for 13@rts after 2 wonderful terms with Aida and the best team in the world. It is after a lot of consideration that I have to say goodbye, as you all know we have a new addition to the family and it is getting more difficult to find time for myself and for creating. All the mothers out there will know - it is almost impossible to go to the toilet some times! Hopefully things will get easier as the kids grow up and I can start creating again.

For my last post, I am sharing a project of my little girl. She has the sweetest smile that makes us unable to get angry with her when she is naughty. Yes, at 5 months old she is already up to a lot of mischief just like her two brothers.

I started with a white cardstock and primed it with 13@rts clear gesso before working on my background. Lots of layering of mediums - I first created an array of stenciled doily with a paste of Pink metallic paint and Magic powder. I then sprayed water generously to get the pink from the paste to bleed out. When this is dry, I painted on more colors with Pink pearl mist and Raspberry matt paint. After all the colors have dried, I stenciled more words with modeling paste and painted on a final layer with Chalk Dirty Pink. Lastly, this was finished with stamping to create motion on the page.

Straws that I made with Olga's Starlight collection papers. I brushed one end into gel medium and dipped it into gold stripes to create confetti. The Wheelies and Buttons chipboard was painted with Coral and Apricot matt paints. I had also sprinkled some gold microspheres here and there.

Left-over from one of the store's flower packs which I had torn off the centre for another project. This is perfect for staging my butterfly cut out from Secret Letters and I had painted lightly with Pearl Pink mist. I also built my paper layers from Starlight collection.

Adorable with Jelissa

Hello friends!

Hope the weather is turning warmer for all of you. It's raining today so it's lovely and cool now, and I'm really enjoying the light breeze. Today I'm on the blog to share a layout of my little girl with you using the Secret Letters collection.

I prepared my background with 13@rts clear gesso to leave the details on the paper visible, but I did dry brushed some gesso for a rugged look. I then used my favourite doily stencil from the collection and painted it over with Coral matte paint and Dirty Pink pastel mist - I'm so happy to be finally using so much pink! This was followed by stenciling on more word sentiments from "My Letters" mask.

A moth I fussy cut out and brushed on Clear Pearl mist for a beautiful shine.

A chipboard which I painted with Coral matt paint, and layered very thinly Pink Metallic Paint, followed by a layer of Clear Pearl mist before finishing off with some embossing powder.

Some other details here of the background and also another fussy-cut doily.

My title - painted with Pink Metallic paint. And I finished off the whole page with splatters of Berry pastel mist and Splash! acrylic ink.

Celebrate with Jelissa

Hello friends!

Hope your 2016 has been great so far. Mine is just filled to the brim with the kids and their activities and catching some me-time is a miracle! And I was so glad to find time to make a card for a special someone.

I've used paper from Aida's Secret Letters collection and based my mono-chrome palette entirely on the gorgeous mauve and pinks.

Bits of the background here. I first used the lovely new doily stencil (love it!!) and painted over with Dirty Pink in the chalk and pastel mists, followed by splatters of pastel Berry mist and black Splash! ink. For my title, I painted the words with white Splash! ink.

When all that is dried, I went over with the "Always the Music" stencil. This is another favourite of mine because of the details in the notes and script and I love to use this to add more texture to my background. Lastly is a script stamp with some embossing powder for a darker color tone to accent the whole card.

I have a doily die cut from white cardstock and gave it a slightly different treatment. First I splattered Berry mist over it without gesso and let the color sink in. It leaves a intense but even splash of color and I applied gesso over. Finally it's Berry mist again but the effects are greatly different. The spots of mist dries with a darker edge around a much lighter pool of the mist. With this, I was able to make my doily look more interesting with a dyed and dried look. The chipboard was treated as usual with painting Dirty Pink chalk mist randomly.

Finishing the Year with Jelissa

Hello 13@rts friends!

Today is the second last day of 2015, how fast time has flown! For me especially, it is a big year because our little girl has arrived. There are so many changes in the family, in my life and as I look back, there were just as many blessings that we have experienced. So for my last post for this year, I want to take time to say "thank you" and be grateful for all that has happened, good or bad.

This is a card I made for a close family friend whose birthday is also just around the corner. He has walked through difficult times with my husband and me, and loves my children as his own. Because this is for a guy, I have done away with flowers and made it very simple with strong clean lines.

I used Olga's Winter Tales for this card simply because the papers are so beautiful! I particularly love the deep reds and rich greens, and I couldn't make enough projects from this collection. For this post, I thought I really want to feature more of the papers and despite it being a Christmas theme collection, you can use it for just about anything.

Some details of the background. For this card, I used only two paints - White Glitter paint and Green Glitter Splash ink. To get that lovely mint green, I mixed White Glitter paint with Magic Powder, followed by a drop of Green Glitter and spread it over the holly stencil from the same collection. When it dries, you can see a lovely shimmer with both silver and gold flakes. I also topped it up with some splatters of Green glitter straight from the bottle.

For this chipboard, I used the remainder of my mint green paste and spread it over. Then I gradually mix in Green glitter paint to the remaining paste to use as a thick paint, one drop at a time to get many different shades of the green as layers of paint. Until the last layer was painting directly from the bottle.

I love the fussy cut holly from the Christmas tag paper and layered them on top. Then I brushed a thin layer of White glitter paint over to make the whole card look consistent with the use of glitter.

Peace with Jelissa

Hello friends, we are just a week away from Christmas!

Hope you're finishing up those last minute shopping and getting ready for the merry making and catching a break from a whole year's work.

Today I'm up on the blog to share a winter layout with you. Coming from tropical Singapore, I've always had a deep fascination for winter - the cuddling around the fire on a winter night, holding hot cocoa in my hands and with my loved ones around me sharing warmth and laughter. Winter is such a time for families.

I love the world looks like when it wakes up from a night of snow. Everything is covered in a soft white blanket and all is quiet and peaceful. I found that photo from the internet because it conveyed such a sense of serenity. I tried to do a monochrome layout with varying shades of grey by mixing matt black paint with white in different amounts. I also painted with Chalk Grey mist and Old Silver metallic paint to obtain those gradations in color. Underneath the painting is stenciling some snowflakes with a paste I made from Magic Powder and White and Silver glitter. When it dries, it leaves a beautiful iridescent finish. I also made splatters with my black and white matt paints.

My title piece is from Winter Tales chipboard words and I painted it with White Silver glitter paint, followed by the leftover paste I used for the stenciling in the background. The snowflake chipboard underneath was treated the same way.

After all the paint and paste is dried, I went over another layer with modeling paste for words to create that subtle contrast in the background.

To add on more texture, I sprinkled glass glitter, plastic microspheres and sealed them with liquid medium. I would have happily added silver microspheres as well if only I could find them in the tornado of scrap supplies on my desk. This is what happens when you get so caught up in crafting that you forget about packing up!

Hi!

My name is Jessika and I live in the very north of Sweden. I live here with my boyfriend and our two sons.

I have been scrapping since 2006 and have had a wonderful scrapping journey so far! I started out doing cards and small baby albums for people's birthdays and such and has since then grown immensely. I now mostly do mixed media layouts. Putting paints and color on a white background is pure joy for me :D I just love to get messy! I also love contrasts. That is usually why I work on white and black backgrounds.
