"Memories" layout with Sandi Clarkson

For today's project, I have created a layout featuring a photo from Stella de Libero of one of her lovely designs. I love the juxtaposition of the fabulous gown against the wood slats of the Washed Wood paper, Grungy Walls. I've paired a sheet from Rose Fields, Evening Story  which was torn and layered in the upper center of the page.

After coating my papers with Clear Gesso, I did some stencil work with the Wonderful Nature Stencil and some Modeling Paste. When that was dry, I did some random stamping using the Rose For You A6 Stamp and permanent black ink.

Additional photo layers were created from the Evening Story as well as a white die cut I had on my desk. I've also used one of the wreaths from the In Bloom Ephemera Pack. 

 


For color I've used both Ayeeda Paint - Matte Raspberry as well as Chalk Burnt Sienna mist, often mixing the two. As well as painting with one of my brushes and moving with water, I also did some paint splattering. My white splatters were from the Watercolor set 16 pans - set of watercolors.

For texture, I've used Ecru Sisal, 3D balls medium, Gold Microspheres XS and of course, some 49 and Market florals from my stash along with a few flat-backed pearls.




My chipboard title and flourish piece are both from the Chipboard set Summer Rhapsody A4 and were left natural.




I love adding color around my focal area to make it really pop!




I've used a few pieces of corrugated cardboard to elevate my photo for further dimension.

"Free" ~ a fanciful layout with Sandi Clarkson

Hello, 3arts fans!

 It's Friday, yay! I hope you have some relaxing weekend plans! 

Sandi here with you today sharing my latest creation using the On The Wall paper collection. 

I was in the mood for something kind of fanciful and "off the wall," :) so I chose to scrap this photo of a whimsical store front window at Bergdorf Goodman in New York City. The glammed up mannequin amongst dinosaurs bones intrigued me. 

Here are my steps:

First I cut a 5x12 inch strip of the On the Wall Bubbles paper and used an old punch on the edges and then distressed them a bit.  That strip was layered on top of the On the Wall Dripping paper with words, B.  Next Clear Gesso was used to prime the papers to prepare them for wet media products. At about the same time I lightened a focal section of the layout with watered down White Gesso.




After using a heat gun to dry the papers, I chose the His Time Stencil because it seemed fitting for the page. I pushed Modeling Paste through the stencil in 3 primary areas. Working in threes is a rule of thumb for me.
 While I was drying the modeling paste, I chose the Yellow Amber Water Ink to highlight the pattern of the stencil. By applying the ink with a small watercolor brush, I moistened the water ink with a mister and tilted my page to help the ink move in an interesting pattern. I am crazy over this color of Water Ink, so you'll probably see it often!

 

I also had some Brown Water Ink in my palette tray, so I used a mosist towelette to dab some of that here and there on the layout. I kept the towel nearby so that I could use it near the conclusion to add hints of the second color for depth. Once my focal area was definite, I stamped around that area with the wispy stem stamp from the Rose for You Stamp. The Beautiful stamp is from the same collection.

 

My photo was layered on a scrap from the On the Wall A4 Frames and a couple of paper doilies, then adhered to corrugated cardboard to give it height. I added Sisal ecru for texture before gluing the photo collage to the layout.
Next I began working on my florals. The larger ones are from13 Arts white flowers, set of 4 and the small ones are from my stash ... probably 10 years old. The cute little lightbulb is something that my husband found in the flower bed while I was busy working on this page. When he showed it to me, I grabbed it, washed and bam, added it to my page with Multipurpose gel medium. I used the regular Gel Medium for adding my Gold microspheres at the end.




All the chipboard pieces were chosen to loosely mimic the dinosaur bones, so I had planned ahead exactly where I wanted to place them. They were tucked in while the glue holding the photo collage was still wet. And of course, I chose the Free title because it seemed fitting.

Next came the fun part of just adding extra water ink here and there wherever looked right. Then I began splattering with 13 Arts SPLASH White Ayeeda Ink,  SPLASH Old Gold Glitter Ink andSPLASH Old Silver Glitter Ink. Of course, it is important to cover your photo while doing this step. A little on the photo is okay but you don't want to ruin it.




Just a nice shot of the dimension and also how I added bits of the Water Inks to the florals, the chipboard and wherever I thought was needed.

This close-up shows the use of the moist towel with leftover Brown Water Ink. On the chipboards stems to the left, I also made sure to add some of the SPLASH Old Gold Glitter Ink.




Aw, one last shot of that cool lightbulb found out in the flower bed! Always be on the lookout for clever things to add to your designs! And don't forget to add a little texture at the end, such as the Gold microspheres.

Live Life Fully ~ a layout with Sandi Clarkson

Hello, 13 Arts fans!

Sandi here with you today sharing my most recent layout using the gorgeous Blue Magnolia paper collection. This is my first "solo" project since joining the Design Team and I am beyond thrilled to be here.



I adore scrapping photos of the outdoors and this photo of a granddaughter with her pony was just too precious. I'm drawn to earth colors, so chose some papers from 13 Arts Blue Magnolia to co-ordinate with my photo, Blue Magnolia at Dusk and Blue Magnolia Flowery Day.

My first step after getting a feel for my basic design was to coat my papers with 13 Arts Clear Gesso so that any added color would not soak through the papers. The gesso also helps any water-based color move across the paper. Next I adhered a few scraps of the Flowery Day to At Dusk.




Step two was to create some texture by pushing 13 Arts Modeling Paste through the Wallpaper Stencil ... which is definitely a fave of mine! While that was drying, I did a little fussy cutting of flowers and cotton stems from the Blue Magnolia A4 Elements and the Blue Magnolia Flowery Day paper. They make for great matching embellishments.

Before moving on to my color, I did some random stamping with the Rose for You Stamp as well as created some distressed photo layers with papers from the Blue Magnolia 6x6 paper pad.




The 13 Arts Navy Blue Water Ink was a perfect choice to use with the Blue Magnolia papers. I put some in a disposable palette and transferred color from there to the paper with a small brush. Then I used my water mister to move the color around until it looked pleasing. I definitely wanted some areas of darker color to really enhance the texture created by the modeling paste and stencil.




Next I began assembling my layers and added some Sisal ecru on top of the fussy cut elements. I also built up my photos with corrugated cardboard beneath them. I tucked in a few flowers from my stash and adhered them with Gel Medium.

Almost as an afterthought, I decided to add some Brown Water Ink around my photos to help them pop out a bit and really have that rough, outdoor look.




Here I adhered my fussy cut butterflies and then finished with some 3D balls. To complete the project, I splattered with some watered down 13 Arts White Gesso to help blend all the elements.

In lieu of a title, I lastly added some word phrases from the Vintage Moments Word Stickers sheet.
