Hi everyone,
I'm Elisa and I am so excited to be a guest designer for 13Arts for the next few months
I live on the East Coast of NSW Australia with my Hubby and two boys and i have been art and crafting for many years. I majored in Art in college and I have a great range in my style from Mixed Media Art to Scrapbooking to Watercolour painting, Home decor items, Canvases, Natural Wall Hangings, out of the box items, mixed media pieces to Art Journalling and a combination of the lot at times. If i had to describe my style i would say eclectic, different and colourful. I love to use loads of different mediums on my projects but as my hubby would say I have a unhealthy addiction to stamps, stencils and paint. I also have a penchant for using upcycled or repurposing items for my projects, from natural items to hand dying fabric, wire, feathers, toilet paper and other unusual items.
I have for you today a mixed media layout featuring loads of gorgeous 13Arts products including the new paper collection by Aida called Aqua Flora.
I wanted to create a whimsical and vibrant background to go with the cute photo of my great niece who is full of personality. I was inspired by the wonderful watercolour look of the paper collection and also the colours. One of my favourite 13arts products features in this layout, the lovely Inks and Splash Inks which are so vibrant!
To make the background I started with the base paper - Shades of Black, then stencilled modelling paste through the 13Arts Vintage Damask stencil. I love adding old book paper to my backgrounds, so I used a 2 inch circle punch and punched out a few book paper circles and stuck them to my background. I added a thin wash of slightly watered down 13Arts Medium White Gesso Primer over the top.
Then once dry I spritzed with water and dripped my inks (Bordeaux and Turquoise) into the water and let them move around my page. I then spritzed and splattered the area with Ayeeda Chalk Mist in Turquoise as well and let dry.
One of my favourite techniques is to use lines or a cross pattern in my background to draw the eye to the photo ! I used Ayeeda Black Ink and a ruler to add black lines to my background, once the lines are dry, stamp around these lines for extra visual interest.
I fussy cut the lovely water colour flowers out from the 13Arts paper - Colours of Summer and added them to my background along with a few co-ordinating tags from the Aqua flora Elements sheet.
I hand dyed my fabric heart embellishment (Charms Creations) with the 13Arts inks to match my background, inked the 13Arts chipboard and also dyed the hand made paper clay angel wings.
I love adding hand made tassels onto my layout as well, so I added a tassel using the matching embroidery thread I used in my background.
Add some touches of 13Arts glitter in Violet and a dragonfly charm to finish your layout.
